Jeera rice is a simple and quick variation of plain rice. This is fluffy and full of flavor rice recipe prepared with basmati rice and basic spices. You can find it in every restaurant. Jeera (cumin) gives an aroma and a good texture to Basmati rice. A combination of jeera and desi ghee bring a huge transformation in plain rice. Addition of various spices like cardamom, bay leaves, cloves and pepper also give amazing flavor.
It can be served with any type of dal or curry. Kids or elders everyone like dal chawal, chole chawal or rajma chawal. This aromatic Jeera rice goes well with them.

2 cups Water
1 tablespoon Ghee
1 Bayleaf
5-6 black pepper
1 inch Cinnamon Stick
4–5 Cloves
1 teaspoon Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
1/2 teaspoon Salt

Ingredients:
1 cup Basmati Rice2 cups Water
1 tablespoon Ghee
1 Bayleaf
5-6 black pepper
1 inch Cinnamon Stick
4–5 Cloves
1 teaspoon Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
1/2 teaspoon Salt
Instructions:
Step 1-
Wash the rice few times and soak in enough water for 30 minutes.Step 2-
Heat ghee in a pot. Add cumin seeds. When they begin to splutter, add bay leaf, black peppers, cinnamon and cloves. Fry for some seconds.Step 3-
Now add soaked rice, salt and water.Step 4-
Cover the pan with lid and cook on low heat till all water has evaporated and rice is cooked completely. Switch off flame and let it rest for 10 minutes. Then fluff with fork.In Pressure cooker-
If you are using pressure cooker, after step 3 close the pressure cooker with lid and cook on high heat for 2 whistle. Switch off flame. Once the pressure settles down, open the cooker and fluff with fork gently.Tips:
- There are so many methods to cook jeera rice. You can precook the rice before. Then fry the rice with jeera and spices.
- Use only good quality basmati rice.
- Use only desi ghee as it gives aromatic flavor with jeera. Adding ghee ensures the rice does not turn sticky and mushy.
- Do not stir the rice while cooking. It will break the grains.
- You can enhance this by adding nuts like almond, cashew or raisins.
